Jonathan Corbin, 47, of Philadelphia, has been identified as the man shot dead by police, according to an updated release.
The incident began around 6:12 p.m. on Sunday evening, Nov. 10, PPD explained. Officers from the 18th District responded to a report of a domestic disturbance on the 5400 block of Chancellor Street, police said. A woman had called 911, alleging that the man discharged a firearm inside a residence during an argument.
A nearby male witness reported hearing gunshots and, upon leaving his home, saw the armed man inside his friend’s vehicle. The man reportedly pointed a firearm at both the witness and his friend, demanding property. He allegedly attempted to fire his weapon but it did not discharge, according to police.
Officers arrived shortly after, and the man pointed his firearm at them, prompting one officer to discharge his weapon. It is not known if the man was struck at that time, police said. The man fled the scene in the vehicle, leading to a chase involving additional officers and a sergeant from the 18th District.
The pursuit ended at 52nd Street and Woodland Avenue when the man exited the vehicle and ran into an empty lot. As officers observed he was still armed, a second confrontation ensued, during which both an officer and a sergeant discharged their weapons.
The man was transported to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:47 p.m., according to police. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
No officers or other individuals were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation. A Taurus 9mm gun was recovered from Corbin.
Corbin was described by the police as a 47-year-old Black man. The first officer had been with the force for two years and is a 25-year-old white man, the second officer has six years of service and is a 29-year-old white man, and the Sergeant has served 10 years and is a 34-year-old white man, as detailed in the updated PPD release.

"I regret to inform everyone that my father Jonathan has sadly passed away. He will surely be missed. [...] Peace be unto you all 💔"
